The state government has cleared in-principle funding of Rs 500 crore to begin land acquisition and preparatory work for the proposed Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) Sports Enclave in Ahmedabad. The provision has been made in this year’s budget. Separately, the government has sanctioned Rs 100 crore this year as part of a Rs 2,900 crore plan to upgrade facilities at the Karai Police Academy near Motera.
The SVP enclave and the Karai academy will anchor the 2030 Commonwealth Games. Planned across 236 acres at an estimated cost of Rs 5,050 crore, the SVP enclave will come up around the Narendra Modi Stadium, which has a capacity of 1.3 lakh spectators. Officials said the hub will host infrastructure for more than 50 Olympic disciplines alongside cricket, positioning it as a world-class multi-sports complex. These include an aquatics centre, a tennis stadium and a multipurpose arena, besides a National Institute for Sports Excellence.

The Sports Authority of Gujarat has received administrative approval to start land acquisition, with completion targeted in four to five years. Official resolutions regarding the project were issued recently. The Karai Police Academy near Motera is also being developed with the aim to meet requirements of future global sporting events. Tenders will be floated shortly, a senior official confirmed.
The sports venues for CWG are progressing on schedule, with completion targeted by 2029, organisers said Saturday. A formal Organising Committee is expected to be set up in the coming weeks.
The Narendra Modi Stadium will host cricket. An aquatics centre, a tennis stadium and a multipurpose arena are expected to be ready at the SVP enclave in the first, second and third quarters of 2029. A National Institute for Sports Excellence is also planned within the complex. The 143 acre Gujarat Police Academy in Karai will have a 50,000 capacity athletics stadium, expected to be ready by September 2028.The shooting centre for 4,000 spectators is likely to be ready by March 2029. The Games roster will include 17 disciplines, with India set to reinstate shooting, badminton and hockey. The Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Naranpura is lined up for weightlifting.
